ABOUT! A one and only gastronomic festival
that no one has yet experienced!

"Shinshu Ueda Matsutake & Wine Festival 2023" will be held during the holidays in September, when the autumn harvest is in full bloom, and visitors can fully enjoy food and wine including fresh Matsutake mushrooms from Shinshu!

Ueda is rich in nature and the romance of the Warring States period. In fact, the city harvests the largest amount of Matsutake mushrooms in Japan! And Chikumagawa Wine Valley is one of the most famous wine-producing areas in Japan, and new wineries are springing up one after another.

In a place where you can experience the beautiful nature and culture of Shinshu Ueda, you can find nice pairing of Matsutake dishes and the Chikumagawa Wine Valley wines, and also we hope to create a new Japanese food culture together with you!

Ueda is the largest harvested of Matsutake mushrooms in Japan, but due to the destruction of the "satoyama", damage by pine weevils, and lack of successors, the harvest has decreased significantly, and the domestic Matsutake mushroom harvest is now less than 1% of the prewar level, designated as an "endangered species" and in a critical condition. ※"satoyama" is an undeveloped woodland area near a village.

In order to preserve the rich aroma and flavor of domestic Matsutake mushrooms for future generations, we will make an effort that develop activities to regenerate satoyama through this festival and gastronomy tours.

The venue is the "Ueda Joushi Kouen"(Ueda Castle Park), which is easily accessible from Ueda Station, it is about 1.5 hours from Tokyo station by Shinkansen. Many popular food stalls from Shinshu will be present, including original dishes using Matsutake mushrooms, which can only be enjoyed at this event!

You can also enjoy pairing with premium wines from Chikumagawa Wine Valley, which is attracting attention for its high quality.

Have a great time and experience with Shinshu's wonderful foods and wines! ※"Shinshu" is an old synonym which means Nagano.
